Project365

December 31st @derrickcollins texted me and asked if I wanted to join him in "Project 365"

"What's that?" I responded.

"You take a photo every day. You can add it to the flickr group and I plan on adding it to facebook as well" he chortled.

Well I imagine he chortled. I couldn't tell through the text.

So bright and early the next morning I was off. Full of ambition I drove out looking for a good point to catch a sunrise over nearby Mt. Hood.Wish I had a big wheel(1/365)

Not at all a sunrise. Nor Mt. Hood.  But close, as I was probably wearing a hood and wished the sun would rise a little more.  Now before this project started I was not involved with any planned photography. Meaning that, while I loved taking photos, I never planned a shoot or set out specifically to get a snap.

I know that had I just tried to attempt this on my own I would have probably given up after about a month. While I can't say for certain that I'll end the year with 365 photos, the fact that I have friends like Derrick out there who are marching forward every day gives me the extra push I need. There's no need to begin on Jan 1st. If you're thinking about doing this, don't wait till next year; just start today. And friend me on flickr while you're at it.

Improv Improvements

Tonight I'll hopefully be finalizing the details of my Improv team this year.

To give you a little background the last 3 years I have coached a team(or two) of 5 high-school kids to the competition of wits know as Improvathon. These competitions are held at differing points in the US each year.  It is tradition for the team(and coaches) to film a "Dorkumentary" chronicling the adventure.

2008 was my first year coaching and all 5 kids first year attending. My pal and half-brother Ben was the other coach of this years team. It was in Denver, Colorado and the theme was Wild Wild West. Our team name was oh so cleverly named "The Spurs of the Moment." We took the competition by storm and won first place. You can view that years Dorkumentary -> Here

2009 was my second year going. There was such an excess of kids who turned out to audition we decided to take 2 teams this year. A full 10 kids, 5 of which were total newbies, ventured to the northwest to Portland, Oregon. The theme that year was Superheros and our team names were "The Almost Likeable Power People Go*" and "The Just-Us league"The Power people won first place, making me a 2-time winning coach. You can view that years Dorkumentary -> Here

2010 was my third, and final year, as a Kansas City coach. I took only one team and was the single coach. The team was comprised of a combination of the two teams the year before. It was held in San Diego, California and the theme was "Funny in the Sunny." Our team was the Failboaters. Unfortunately  we did not win this, as that would make things to easy. I was proud to say fellow Kansas City team Punny Side Up did take first place. Kansas City has kept the 1st place trophy for every year we've gone but 2. The Dorkumentary for this year is still in development.

So back to this year,
Having just transplanted  from Missouri to Oregon, I need to rebuild my Improv empire. I started by teaching a class of 9 high schoolers. Out of that 9 I have managed to convince 4 to be willing to become the first Oregon team I coach.  If all goes well, we'll be heading out to Coer'de Lane, ID this July for their first adventure.
