Broseph final thoughts

A month have passed since Joseph closed. New friends were made with the hopes that it won't be another year before we possibly could see each other again. I could write a bunch of cliche things about how the lights have faded from the stage andthe makeup has worn off, and it is mostly true. I would like to believe I will do more theatrical endeavors this fall but chances are slim. I will, however, always have the memories.
One memory in particular happened a few weeks before we moved into the theatre. All of the brothers got together with Jeremy, our directory, for a night of bonding, junk food, and character work. Getting 12 guys together in itself usually spells insanity; 12 theatrical guys is a perfect storm. I knew it was going to be a great night when we decided to start playing indoor softball. The evening ended with the brothers sitting down and hammering out importent character details. Even though few of us  had any solo moments, by building character traits and motivation we give ourselves a basis to perform the entire show. I realized as we went along this was not that unlike building a character in a RPG, so I kept that in my mind as I filled out descriptions. I had done some historical reading on my character, Gad, and was trying to use that as a basis myself. One of the things I had noted was Gad was describe as having great strength. Using this I defined myself as a fighter/warrior. Typically I play a more roguish character so this was very out of line for me, but I felt it was a powerful aid in pushing me past my limits.

Broseph and the move-in

Today was move in at Washougal Community Center. Which just so happens to be a good 45 min drive from where I live. This meant that a 9am call time turned into a 8:15 leave time which pointed back to a 7:15 wake up time. This is a hard thing for me so I was pushing myself. Arriving at 9 put me on the set team so we spent a good few hours lugging lumber and carrying crates into the theatre. Not only were we carrying things, but we also needed to build our giant staircase. And by giant staircase I mean a huge staircase that will incur many dances.

Once the sets were constructed for the most part I had to prepare for my makeup instructional. This basically meant I needed to get all my things pulled into my dressing room. Fortunetly the guys get the best room in the house so we had plenty of mirrors and lights to use. For those that have never applied stage make-up, it can be a little unnerving to try and apply that much to your face.

Having learned how to correctly apply the eyeliner and all that business, I realized I had a few hours before I was I was needed, I started to relax. It was then it hit me – Between work and rehearsal I was going to have no free time this week. There was still a handful of things I needed to buy, mainly under armor shorts. Frantically I started asking around where I could buy a pair. I was directed to a bike shop in a nearby town. Upon arriving at said location I proceeded to inquire upon their shorts. It wasn't until he asked what kind of biking I was doing that I started to backpedal(u see wat I did there) I quickly mumbled something about not really biking and shambled away. He offered another store as a suggestion for shorts. My cruĂ« and I hop back in the car and off we go. The next stop offered great many things, including the shorts in question.

Upon returning to the theatre we hopped in our show shoes and proceeded to walk through the whole show and fixing spacing issues.

Bro-seph and his technicoat

I'm currently in rehearsals for CCT Vanports premier production – Joseph and his Technicolor Dreamcoat, which you'd already know if you follow me on Twitter. You are encouraged to buy tickets here, but for those you unable to attend I will attempt to be producing some sort of production journal. There has been to many incredible events to provide you with a worthy recap, but hopefully I'll be able to share some of the crazed feelings you get when in a production of this measure.

I definetly want to raise my beret to the Artistic team, without we'd have no show. One might think that with this being a community production that they would take it easy on us. I can honestly say I can't remember ever being pushed this hard to accomplish something. We open a week from today, and we have move in this weekend. I'll be doing my best to provide you a slice of the crazy.
